“Inherit the Earth”

Theatre Theatre and Legion Kreativ present ‘Inherit the Earth’.  A  post-apocalyptic drama that follows the only survivors of the new world; a group of children.  They begin to face their new reality and as they discover the work around them they begin to learn more about themselves and about the true affect of fear.

‘Inherit the Earth’, written by Kate McDowell,  holds a cast of twenty-three, aging from nine to nineteen along with a crew of only five.  The film has been in development for over a year and will be premiering at the Star Court Theatre on Saturday 16th July with pre-film drinks and canapés at 5:30, cast Red Carpet arrival at 6:00 and screening of film at 7:00.

The formal event will be a historical moment for Theatre Theatre as it is the only feature film to come from the company to date.  It also marks the debut into the filmic world for many of the cast.  Jackson Mathias (14) states “I would love to have an career in film and this was a great opportunity to be able to get an idea of what it will be like, and the challenges in switching from theatre acting to camera acting”.

Many of the cast members are eagerly awaiting the release of the film to be able to witness the final product, and see how their hard work has paid off.  Vinny Grantham-Smith (17), a local student who started the process in year eleven, says, “It was a tough process, very time consuming but having supportive people around me really helped and in the end it was definitely worth it”.  Hayley Cox (14) made a comment on being able to balance school and the filming process through “Time management” and “Making sure that everything was on track”.  The cast, no matter age, all were able to come together and form working relationships and friendships.  Angela Mitchell the director of Theatre Theatre Productions and ‘Inherit the Earth’ made comment on the varied age differences stating “Everyone was on an even playing field… I didn’t discriminate in my head or differentiate even between oldest and youngest”.

The company began developing the film mid 2015 and from the beginning the raw energy and commitment was unmistakable.  Saskia Flynn (17) made comment on the process, “I found it extremely interesting because of all the improvisations that we did and the way Kate observed the improvisations and was able to create the script so similar to what was happening in the theatre”.  The cast committed to the development of the piece in full and are proud to present their creation.  Angus Fitz-Bugden who goes by the performance name of Artpleasy was able to be brought into the production for onset sound, sound track development and who was responsible for the final audio mix.
