Centenary Gala

DatesSat 24 July 2021

Start time: 7pm

Price: $15 - $20

The Star Court Theatre are very excited to be celebrating 100 Years of operation in Lismore.  It was the first purpose built cinema in the region and to this day still screening cinema and hosting live entertainment.
In July 1921 Star Court Theatre celebrated the opening of it’s doors with great fanfare.
To commemorate this milestone we are holding a Centenary Gala on Saturday 24th July, hosted by Ilona Harker with performances by Black Train, Jex Lopez and featuring a special screening of locally made 1928 silent film “The Razor Gang”, with live music by Vincent & Buttons.
We are encouraging everyone to frock up, don the tassels, feathers & sparkles and get into the swing of the 20’s again!!

A bit about the film....
The Razor Gang was a community film production created in Lismore, adding to the celebrations surrounding the opening of the Memorial Baths and the Municipal Council Chambers (March 1928). The film contains numerous shots of local settings. The director was William Reed (husband of the Hollywood starlet Eva Novak no less). The presentation is credited to TJ Dorgan, proprietor of the Star Court theatre, and most of its actors are Northern Rivers locals. One month after filming the finished product was shown in the Star Court. Most likely this is the earliest film of Lismore, sadly we could only source the first 27 mins.
